win some; blues some
This night was special with luminaries such as Lee Konitz and Sue Mingus in the house as audience members and a super fun story unfolded…Trumpeter and educator Nabate Isles happened to drop by with his horn. I went up to Nabate on the set break and asked, “you want to sit in on one?” Slightly nervous, Nabate asked if it was original music or just calling tunes. I believed in his ability 100% and reassured him he ‘would hear it’. The outcome; the recording you’ll hear now! The song, a playful title based on the phrase ‘you win some, you lose some’, exhibits my love for diverse musical styles often in the same composition. This was recorded live at the original Kitano Jazz Club. In an intimate setting the band really knows how to breathe together and I feel this recording shows this nicely.
